Skipping Stones Blog Tour

There’s one last stone in our pile. I glance down at it. “You want it?” I ask.

He shakes his head. “No.”

I glance into his brown eyes. “You want me to do this one?”

“Yup.”

“What if I mess this one up?” I reach down and pick it up. “Like the whole bottom of the ninth, bases loaded, full count, two outs...”

He smiles. “I guess we’re about to find out how you do under pressure.”

I don’t care about the stone. I don’t care if I can skip it, or not. I just want to kiss him again. “You made the game up...”

“I did,” he quips proudly.

“Then you can change the rules.”

“I’m listening.”

“No matter what, I get another kiss. Either way it’s a prize.” I shrug.

“Ha. A prize either way. What’s your reasoning?” He chuckles.

“Either the prize for winning...skipping a stone, or a consolation prize for choking.”

“Deal.” He moves back and plops into the overgrown weeds. I’d call it grass, but I’m not sure I see any blades of grass. It’s mainly clover, wild onions, and dandelions. “How about if I give you a bigger kiss if you do it? That way you still have some incentive to do your best.”

I glance back over my shoulder. “Deal.”

I replay the instructions he gave me earlier. I turn so that my side is facing the water. I put the stone just right in my fingers. I look back to him, holding my hand out. “Like this?”

As my head turns, I freeze because it’s not Drew sitting in the field. It’s my father. As if freezing and not moving will make this real. It has to be a figment of my imagination. Our eyes are locked and he smiles as he gives me a thumbs up.

I feel a tear trickle down my face. I’m paralyzed, unable to move.

Blurb:

They say there are five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.

Not everyone will grieve in this order, nor will everyone go through every stage. It’s during the stage of denial when Alex Hart meets Andrew Foster. He takes her one-step closer to acceptance: the stage when new, meaningful relationships are formed. The stage when the realization occurs that this is now the new state of normal.

Just when Alex thinks she is on her way to healing, she enters the bargaining phase. That’s the phase where you wonder what you could have done differently. You wonder “what if?” Specifically, what if the ones you loved hadn’t left you?

Leaving…this is what makes heading off to war so difficult and frightening for Alex. She knows all too well what it’s like to be the one on the losing end of life, which is why she’s made it her personal mission in life to save as many lives as possible. The extreme high she gets from treating trauma victims turns into Alex’s own form of therapy, or so she thinks.

When faced with her world being turned upside down, Alex may just find that her true therapy is in the one who has always saved her.

Review: Kitchen Affairs by Brooke Cumberland

{Book:} Kitchen Affairs
{Author:} Brooke Cumberland
{Copyright:} Brooke Cumberland 2013
{Pages:}258 (Nook pages)
{Description:} Drake Stagliano is a high maintenance man from a wealthy empire family in Chicago. He managers The Riverside Hotel/Restaurant where he only expects the absolute best. With a past filled with being used and heartbreak, the last thing he expects is to find a woman he can't control himself around... a chef intern.

Molly Woods is not your typical 23 year old. She's in her last semester of culinary school and interning at Drake's restaurant. She's closed dating off her list - her only priorities are finishing school & her 4 year old daughter. When Molly is pursued by Drake, she does everything she can to deny the chemistry and sexual tension. However, that doesn't last long & she finds herself completely mad over him.

When an intimate video goes public, Molly's internship and credibility is threatened. She's lusts for the one man she's been able to connect with after the sudden death of her late fiancé - but can Drake hold on for the emotional ride? Molly will need to let go of her past in order let Drake in. Fall in love with this steamy, funny, & romantic story of two people who find each other just when they both need someone the most.

{Alesha's Thoughts:}

Holy shit what a journey! This book is fantabulous. If that's not a word, it should be dammit. This book has everything from heartbreak to anger to confusion to raw love. I would like to say that I loved every moment of this book but I did not. There were numerous times that I was simply pissed off. Let's just say that I did NOT agree with Molly's actions on NUMEROUS occasions. However, the emotions evoked in this piece are fantastic. They reel you in and hold you tight. I felt my heart race with anticipation in some spots. I felt it break in others. I felt it soar in others yet. There is something relatable about this book no matter who you are.Yes, there are some very steamy parts but I enjoyed reading them. The language isn't explicit or raunchy, however, the scene still plays out to the fullest.

What I really loved about this book was the balance. Not only do you get the saucy love life of Molly and Drake but you also get their battles. You get the real-life stories that belong to them and you experience their struggles first hand. I love feeling like I'm living the book instead of just reading it.

Brooke baby, Kudos. You really did a number with this one!

Interview: S.E. Hall

Author Interview of the Week

Meet S.E. Hall, author of the Evolve series.

What made you want to be an author?

I read a lot, and finally realized...I too have a story to tell.

Who has inspired you the most?

My oldest daughter Lyndsey, 17.

Can you tell us about some of your earlier days of writing?

Emerge is my debut novel and writing experience. I can tell you, I started it as a journal, every word was in a notebook, handwritten, before I ever touched a keyboard.

How has your life considerably changed since you've been published?

I have met so many wonderful, thoughtful, supportive people. I now know how to tweet :) and chat with fans on Facebook. Having all that wonderful interaction, my family, and writing book 2...my life has gotten quite busy!

What can readers expect from Emerge?

It's not just a romance, not just a love triangle. Emerge is about young people; growing up, meeting new friends, forming new bonds, missing their old bonds and finding out who they really are, with sadness, happiness and a lot of humor.

How many books do you think will be in the Evolve Series?

Definitely three, perhaps four.

What has been the best experience so far on your journey as an author?

Connecting with my daughter; she is my lead consultant on lingo, songs, etc....

Can you give us some insight on any upcoming projects?

I'm finishing up on Book 2 in the Evolve series, then Book 3 will be Sawyer's book!

What advice can you give to any upcoming authors?

Do not taper your writing...splurge, spit it all out...THEN go back and cut, edit, change etc. Let the thoughts flow as freely as they will in the beginning.

Thanks so much, S.E. Hall for interviewing with us! Don't forget to follow her on one of her many outlets listed below!

Interview: Danielle A. Elwood

Author Interview of the Week

Meet Danielle A. Elwood, author of Take Me Out and Crashed.

All Rights Reserved to Danielle A. Elwood

What made you want to be an author?

I am not sure honestly, I didn't wake up one morning with a burning desire. I really got into reading romance novels last year, and my interest grew as my love for reading grew. Then I was introduced to the Indie publishing community by Jamie McGuire who pointed me in the right direction. I think when I realized I had the desire and passion, along with her amazing guidance, I just went for it.

Who has inspired you the most?

I would probably say Jamie McGuire and Abbi Glines, both are my favorites and no matter what they continue to churn out amazing books. But my inspiration doesn't just come from the writing community. I get it from my parents, my late sister who always encouraged me to chase my dreams, and of course my amazing children. Knowing that I can set an example for them is probably the most inspiration any one can need.

Can you tell us about some of your earlier days of writing?

I started out as a blogger. Which is why my grammar is atrocious. I always felt the need to write like I talk in my day-to-day life. Which I still do. When I send my work off to editors they hate me. Hell, when I read back over my own work sometimes I cringe. To be honest though, Take Me Out is my first work, and just between that to my next book, Crashed which is scheduled to come out this fall I can see my own growth which is amazingly rewarding.

How has your life considerably changed since you've been published?

It hasn't really changed much yet. I think I have become more dedicated, but check back in with me in a couple months and I know there will be some difference.

What inspired you to write Take Me Out?

I am a baseball nut. I love it. I love the Red Sox. So when I started thinking about a theme for a book or something that would fit into an awesome love story, baseball had to be included. Plus Fenway Park is one of the most beautiful baseball stadiums. I didn't plan Take Me Out though. One day I just picked up and started writing while my kids were out at the Zoo for the day. The rest is kind of history.

You're an Indie Author. Do you think there is a stigma put on Indie writers? Is it more difficult to network?

I think the indie community is the most amazing, welcoming, and supportive community. I don't find it hard to network at all, in fact I think the vast majority are super supportive of each other. Of course there will always be a hand full of bad apples, like anywhere. But honestly, I love being an Indie author.
As for a stigma, I think there can be, but with the way publishing is changing with the access to technology today... it won't be long till the tide turn more.

What has been the best experience so far on your journey as an author?

I would say publishing my first book on my birthday. It was such an amazing day.

Can you give us some insight on any upcoming projects?

I am currently working on Crashed, which is a firefighter based contemporary romance novel. It is a really awesome story and I am enjoying writing it. The synopsis is:
"Emily Taylor is a twenty-six year old event planner who has made a career out of dating; with the majority of it ending up as a complete nightmare. She is driven, motivated, and rising to the top in her career…but not in her love life. However, a random car accident will change her life forever.

Avery Martin is a country boy stuck in the city working his dream job of being a fire fighter. Over the years he has given up a lot, including dating, to focus on his career. Responding to a car accident one day he becomes overly involved with the woman he is rescuing.

Will these two find love, or will amnesia cost them the future they might have had?"
It is slated for Fall 2013. Cover reveal will be on August 5th.

What advice can you give to any upcoming authors?

Don't get discouraged. Ever! We ALL take lumps along the way, and all good authors have. If it is something you are passionate about, never give up.  Join online writing communities, meet other authors, network... you will find great support systems within the Indie community!
